# Life as a Full-Time Creative: Insights and Experiences

Written on

Chapter 1: Understanding the Life of a Full-Time Creative

Many people often inquire, “What does being a full-time creative entail? What exactly do you do?”

The lighthearted response is that I enjoy leisurely mornings, lead a relaxed lifestyle, set my own timetable, and am, quite dramatically, the Architect of My Own Fate. (Yes, that's a title for fun!)

In reality, my activities, which wouldn't typically fit on a standard resume, are a mix of enjoyable and imaginative endeavors that nourish my spirit. I aspire for them to also provide entertainment, education, and possibly support others in a meaningful way.

I am a writer, primarily contributing to a platform called Medium. You can find my articles here:

Additionally, I am an award-winning songwriter and a proud member of the Recording Academy, the Americana Music Association, and Folk Alliance International.

As an entertainer, I perform in a folk-pop duo alongside my husband, Tim Crosby. We eagerly anticipate our “Beautiful Faces” tour set for May 2022, which will take us across the country from Oregon to Nashville, then to California, and back home. We're also gearing up to enter the studio for our eighth album together!

Section 1.1: Spreading Positivity

This effort has resonated with many viewers. For example, one person shared, “This is so helpful; I’ve been diagnosed by a mental health clinic in my area, and it’s slowly coming together, one day at a time. Please continue making these videos; they bring so much hope.” ~ M.S. (USA)

Another viewer remarked, “I really appreciate your caring voice; you provide excellent guidance for individuals like me.” ~ S.M. (Singapore)

The messages I receive from around the globe continually touch my heart.

Section 1.2: Managing Multiple Online Platforms

On the Phoenix House Publishing site, we not only sell sheet music and merchandise but also offer three levels of sponsorship for $3–10. Each month, we upload a teaching video that is later released on YouTube.

Chapter 2: Navigating the Gig Economy

I consider myself a versatile gig worker. To stay informed about current events, I collaborate with a company called Appen and complete surveys for YouGov. The compensation from Appen varies based on the hours dedicated to projects, while YouGov rewards participants with points that translate into cash rewards, making it an enjoyable side gig that fits into my flexible schedule.

I also serve as a private music instructor, managing a small roster of around ten piano students. They bring joy to my life and keep me engaged. My goal is to nurture them into musicians rather than mere players, and we have a great time—often accompanied by a bowl of chocolate in the music room!

Beyond these roles, I am also a public speaker, consultant, Mentor in the GrammyU program, and currently hold the position of vice-president for the Oregon Festival and Events Association. On top of that, I'm a proud Nana!

Life is indeed fulfilling. I never find myself bored, and I make a positive impact without compromising my values.

This is the essence of my life as a full-time creative. If you enjoyed this piece and feel inspired, consider buying me a cup of Ko-fi! Thank you sincerely!
