Crafting a Meaningful Path: My Son's Journey Begins Tomorrow
Written on
Chapter 1: The Writing Plan
As my son steps into adulthood, I'm gearing up for a structured writing routine. My aim is to write five pages a day, five days a week, which would amount to approximately 1,250 pages annually. Divided between two projects, that translates to 625 pages per year. This should yield two books, alongside some scripts and short stories—just about right.
In case of emergencies, I can dedicate Saturdays to writing, focusing on rough drafts. To sustain this output, I’ll need to consume around fifty pages of material daily, in addition to watching a movie for inspiration. Balancing this with meditation, research, and energy management is essential to avoid burnout.
While I’m uncertain about the order of my projects, I am confident that the M.A.G.I.C. formula, when applied correctly, is a powerful catalyst for success. This formula encourages one to Model, take Action, cultivate Gratitude, set clear Intentions, and nurture Confidence. By ensuring none of these elements are absent, progress is inevitable.
This framework inspired me to give Jason his first custom project: "M.A.G.I.C. 4 Teens." It focuses on principles and how he transitioned from ADHD to academic success.
Understanding the Broader Picture
While I encourage the use of the M.A.G.I.C. formula, I also recommend that students explore additional resources. This approach is necessary because I cannot personalize a program for every individual. The MAGIC principles are versatile, applicable to various situations. However, for those aiming to excel, I suggest modeling individuals who have achieved similar goals from their starting point.
Learning from successful figures—whether through "Think And Grow Rich," NLP, or other methodologies—can enhance your journey. The M.A.G.I.C. formula serves as a foundational safety net, while additional models can provide diverse perspectives. In my view, no successful strategy dismisses the significance of modeling, taking action, fostering positive emotions, establishing clear intentions, and believing in oneself.
During the Q&A with Tananarive, we explored various models and perspectives we utilized with Jason. One particularly impactful model I shared with him is Brendon Burchard's "High Performance Six," which I found invaluable during my own experiences in the writer's room.

Chapter 2: Transforming Fear into Fuel
In the context of growth, fear can be reframed as a tool for motivation rather than something to eliminate. I often think back to Antonio Banderas in "The Mask of Zorro," where he practiced complex movements to distract from the reality of his training. By focusing on the form, he could channel his anxiety into productive practice, enhancing his chances of survival.
This approach applies to our fears in life as well; instead of avoiding them, we can leverage them to drive our preparation and practice. I wish I had learned this insight earlier. If I had envisioned my greatest adversary standing before me, I could have channeled that energy into my training, radically transforming my experiences.
Success is not merely about hard work; it’s about working intelligently and sincerely over time, making use of your physical, emotional, and mental resources. This principle is particularly effective when aligned with the Dalai Lama's assertion that life's purpose is to cultivate joy and serve others.
If you can align your goals with the intention to benefit humanity and enjoy your daily activities, then each day becomes a step toward success. You can track your progress through daily actions, ensuring that zeros are absent from your calendar, indicating that you are on the right path.
Jason's belief system has shifted; he now understands that he can succeed but needs to acquire the necessary skills. Our focus is to help him engage with his aspirations while providing a safety net. If he recognizes his responsibilities as integral to his goals, he will strive for them.
Our support is unwavering; we believe in his ability to create the life he envisions, encompassing all his dreams—financial stability, personal fulfillment, and meaningful relationships. It is my responsibility to guide him, ensuring he is ready for challenges, until he can navigate them independently.
Now is the time for action. Creating his own product is a thoughtfully chosen first step, teaching him both general success principles and the specifics of sales and marketing—crucial for financial independence. Understanding these concepts will empower him to align his work with his values and enjoy a fulfilling life.
Tomorrow marks the release of the beta version of the next step in this journey. Exciting times ahead!
Namaste,
Steve
